Create an Internal-Only Ticket

How to create a ticket that your staff can sell in WaveRez Admin but that guests never see on your booking portal.

Written by Amber Dudley

Overview

An internal-only ticket is a ticket type that your staff can select when they create an Order in WaveRez Admin, but that guests never see on the WaveRez Booking Portal. Partners also call this an internal ticket, a staff-only ticket, a staff-only price, a private rate, a comp or locals rate, or a ticket that is not on the booking portal. You create it on the Tickets tab of a Trip under Resources > Trips by checking the Internal Ticket checkbox. Tickets belong to a single Trip, so an internal ticket created on one Trip is not available on any other Trip. To offer the same internal ticket on another Trip, create it on that Trip too.

Prerequisites

You must have Partner administrator access to WaveRez Admin to edit Trips. Before you start, decide on the ticket name, price, duration, and how many should be available per departure time.

Create the Internal Ticket

Step 1 — Click Resources in the left sidebar of WaveRez Admin, then click Trips. The Trips list page opens.

Step 2 — Click the Trip that should offer the internal ticket. The Trip's configuration page opens.

Step 3 — Click the Tickets tab. Your existing tickets are listed.

Step 4 — Click Add another ticket. A new blank ticket appears.

Step 5 — Fill in the ticket the same way as any other ticket: Ticket name, Ticket duration, Price, Min ticket purchase, and Available. Use a name your staff will recognize at a glance, for example "Staff Rate - 1 Hour" or "Locals Rate - Half Day."

Step 6 — Check the Internal Ticket checkbox. This hides the ticket from the guest-facing booking portal. Only your staff can select it when creating an Order in WaveRez Admin.

Step 7 — Leave Default Ticket unchecked on the internal ticket. The default ticket sets the "from" price shown on the booking portal and is the first ticket shown at checkout, so it should be a ticket guests can actually buy.

Step 8 — Click Save Changes in the top-right corner of the page. The internal ticket is now available to staff on this Trip only.

Offer the Same Internal Ticket on Another Trip

Internal tickets do not carry across Trips. To offer the same staff-only price on another Trip, open that Trip under Resources > Trips, click the Tickets tab, and repeat Steps 4 through 8 above. Create it on every Trip where staff need it.

Use the Internal Ticket on an Order

When a staff member creates an Order in WaveRez Admin for that Trip, the internal ticket appears in the ticket type selection alongside your public tickets. Select it the same way as any other ticket. For the full order creation steps, see Create a New Order in WaveRez.

Troubleshoot Internal Tickets

Symptom: The internal ticket is showing on the booking portal.

Cause and resolution: The Internal Ticket checkbox is not checked, or the change was not saved. Open the Trip's Tickets tab, check Internal Ticket on that ticket, and click Save Changes.

Symptom: Staff cannot find the internal ticket when booking a different Trip.

Cause and resolution: Tickets belong to one Trip only. Create the internal ticket on the other Trip's Tickets tab as described above.

Symptom: The "from" price on the booking portal shows the internal ticket's price.

Cause and resolution: The internal ticket is marked as the Default Ticket. Uncheck Default Ticket on the internal ticket, check it on one of your public tickets instead, and click Save Changes.
